Night to Shine

Bobbi got to be part of the nationwide "Night to Shine" last Friday which is a prom event for people with a whole variety of special needs. It's a huge production, with many corporate sponsors, held at a local church/school. They really went all out to make it a gorgeous event, complete with a pre-selected "buddy" for each guest of honor. Bobbi got to have a bit of say ahead of time (the organizer of the event is someone Matt and I have known for years - I hemmed drapes for her maybe 10 years ago, and G-squared has done two different remodeling projects for their house as well as a consult on some exterior painting) and was very satisfied with her buddy. She wanted someone she could sit and talk with, so with roughly comparable interests, as she's not much into dancing or karaoke!

She and I, at her request, went out to Goodwill about a month ago and had a really fun time trying on all sorts of different things. She didn't want a dress, but had a pretty specific idea in her head of what she did want, and she and I were both really excited about what she came up with. Believe it or not, part of the plan was a PINK shirt!

She'd gotten her hair cut about two weeks ago, and wasn't really happy with the cut. She had me shave the underside, but it still wasn't quite doing what she wanted, so *I* got the job of using a curling iron, some "fiber" and red hair color spray to turn it into something decent.

Leah was my test subject so I knew how the spray functioned.

She's got all the details worked out, down to the amethyst pendant on a black chain from a different set. The pink shirt that she found has a narrow purple stripe that worked perfectly with the genuine leather coat that she found.

Bobbi had a pleasant time. She's not really big into karaoke or dancing, but they also provided some quieter spaces for people who wanted to do more chatting (or just avoid noise for sensory reasons!), and so Bobbi and her "buddy" enjoyed their Chick-Fil-A and talked the evening away!

A "red carpet" entrance for each guest (and there were nearly 200 of them, apparently! Bobbi was #178) and limo rides for those interested.

Bobbi ran into our pastor's wife, who was volunteering with the event.
