Glewwe Kids: July 2016

Reuben has been able to join in in a meaningful way for a number of around-the-yard tasks this year. Here he is helping Dad move mulch.

In preparation for our girls coming home, we're putting a bedroom in the basement for Owen and Krassimir. In order to make it not feel like a "basement" bedroom (and to make it a legal bedroom), we're putting in a nice big window. The window well won't be quite as nice as the one on the addition, but will be more generous than is required.

And Reuben

We lost a big branch out of our monster crab-apple tree. The tomato plants survived, but their trellis (identical to the one on the right of this photo) was completed demolished.

We found a neat playground and Reuben was VERY motivated to try this climbing web. It's also one of the first times I've seen him playing imaginatively - I had told him he was climbing like a spider, and he kept reminding me: "Pi-do!" "Yes, Reuben, you're a spider!"

We had a friend come along with us so we could make better use of the playground. She is so sweet with Krassimir.

And black currants! It's so much fun to have a yard with so many things to eat in it.

Krassimir is getting the idea of unwrapping birthday presents! He was very interested in checking out what was in his bag.

Rinnah, too, had a great time. Five years old is perfect for birthdays.

Reuben got a fountain! With water! that goes down! He's always loved putting things in water, so we pooled all of the money he gets from pretty much everyone and put it toward this. Love the smile on his face. ;)

Reuben's occupational therapist gave him a neat puzzle - it's mix and match, so a great blend of fine motor and fun and silly, and great to do with siblings, too.

My first and my youngest. ;) He's so good with babies. Too bad he's never getting married (according to him.) But he'll make a great uncle someday. ;)

We were at a party at a playground, and Reuben was coming off a really bad run of seizures. He spent the entire party laying in the wagon more or less asleep.

Some of Owen's friends are involved with wrestling, and invited him to a three-evening wrestling camp. Owen learned a lot, and got beat a lot. ;) But he had a good time, and was glad for the experience!

Reuben ALSO got a fun birthday present from his old physical therapist - a foot-powered WATER rocket launcher! It's even fun without the rocket - great for hot days.

Reuben got so hungry shoveling mulch that he made himself lunch. ;) He got out a plate, and the bag of bread scraps I have drying for making bread crumbs. Yum.

With road work in front of our house, we requested the colored concrete they were discarding, and put Owen to work with a sledge hammer breaking it up.

We're using the broken concrete to build a gabion wall at the front edge of the hill in our front yard.

Owen wanted a photo of the neat horizontal rock he found when he smashed up this piece. It's kind of fun how you can see me and the yellow sledge hammer handle reflected in his glasses.
